The 2010 Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair will be held on Saturday, March 13th, 2010 at Broome Community College.  Please check back for more information.

Thanks to all who participated in the 2009 Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair at Broome Community College! 

Seventy-five students from Chemung Valley Montessori School, Chenango Forks Middle School, Jennie F. Snapp Middle School, Johnson City High School, Maine-Endwell Middle School, Ross Corners Christian Acadamy, St. John the Evangelist, Vestal Middle School and Windsor Central School presented their projects and attended workshops including “Forensics: Using Science to Fight Crime”, presented by Dr. Harold Trimm, Chairman of the BCC Chemistry Department, “Exploring the Solar System”, presented by representatives from Kopernik Observatory and Science Center and “My Health Career”, presented by Amy Webb from the Central NY Area Health Education Center.

All Gold and Silver winners are eligible to enter the Tri Region Science and Engineering Fair in Syracuse on March 29.  STANYS nominations are eligible to enter a state level science fair sponsored by the Science Teachers Association of New York State.

The STSSF is supported by Broome Community College, Central New York Health Education Center, Lockheed Martin and Sigma Xi.

The 2009 Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th.

Updated forms for the 2009 fair are now available. Please submit your registration by February 28th, 2009. Late registrations will be accepted until March 6th for an additional registration fee.

Students had ”snots” of fun at the 2008 STSSF Science Fair!

Science fair participants learned about the five senses during the 2008 STSSF workshop called “Making Sense of Your Super Sensational Senses”.  The workshop, presented by the BCC Biology Department, gave students the opportunity to explore their five senses through various demonstrations and activities.  Students learned about what it means to be a “super taster”, viewed some incredible optical illusions, used their sense of touch to read, tested their vestibular systems and even made some fake mucous (see picture above).

 STSSF 2008 Workshop Will Explore the Five Senses

We look forward to seeing you at the 2008 Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair Workshop, Making Sense of Your Super Sensational Senses.  The workshop, led by Dr. Tracy Curtis from the BCC Biology Department, will give you an opportunity to interact with some of BCC’s science faculty and learn amazing facts about your five senses. Be prepared to encounter a few surprises and have some fun while learning about how you interact with your sensational surroundings. 

Updated registration and informational forms for the 2008 Southern Tier Scholastic Science fair are available through this website.  The fair will be held on Saturday, March 15th at Broome Community College.
