Thanks to all who participated in the 2009 Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair at Broome Community College!

Seventy-five students from Chemung Valley Montessori School, Chenango Forks Middle School, Jennie F. Snapp Middle School, Johnson City High School, Maine-Endwell Middle School, Ross Corners Christian Acadamy, St. John the Evangelist, Vestal Middle School and Windsor Central School presented their projects and attended workshops including “Forensics: Using Science to Fight Crime”, presented by Dr. Harold Trimm, Chairman of the BCC Chemistry Department, “Exploring the Solar System”, presented by representatives from Kopernik Observatory and Science Center and “My Health Career”, presented by Amy Webb from the Central NY Area Health Education Center.

All Gold and Silver winners are eligible to enter the Tri Region Science and Engineering Fair in Syracuse on March 29. STANYS nominations are eligible to enter a state level science fair sponsored by the Science Teachers Association of New York State.

The STSSF is supported by Broome Community College, Central New York Health Education Center, Lockheed Martin and Sigma Xi.

This science fair is outstanding for encouraging young scientists! They are given a public forum to share their work proudly and are provided with meaningful science activities to further pique their interests. I am grateful to the STSSF commitee for their support of these students! Thank you!
